Shepell·fgi Board Chair To Receive Honourary Doctorate From Wilfrid Laurier University

Allon Bross honoured for his long-standing contribution to mental health in Canada
TORONTO – For over 26 years, Allon Bross has worked tirelessly to improve treatment and support for the millions of Canadians suffering from mental illness, and today his work was recognized by Wilfrid Laurier University.
Allon Bross is the Chair of the Board of Directors at Shepell·fgi, Canada’s largest provider of employee assistance programs and workplace health solutions. In addition to being granted an honourary Doctor of Laws, Bross will be addressing Wilfrid Laurier’s graduating class on October 26th.
"Allon is one of the most distinguished Canadians in the health field, and for us working with him every day is an honour," said Rod Phillips, President and CEO of Shepell·fgi. "He has helped countless Canadians through both his work with mental illness and trauma counselling. He also established many of the practices that we use in our business that today supports over six million Canadians. As one of Wilfrid Laurier’s alumni (MBA, 1991), this for me is particularly special."
"Kitchener is my home town, and to be back to share some of my experiences with the next generation is really special," says Bross. "It’s important that people find something they love, and I was lucky to find that in this field. I’m also fortunate to have had such a great team working with me for these years. I feel we really have improved the lives of Canadians and their families, both at home and at work.
Wilfrid Laurier University was founded in 1911 and is one of Canada’s top-ranked academic institutions. Earlier this month WLU was honoured by the Globe and Mail with top marks for overall quality of education, atmosphere and class size by the Globe and Mail’s 2007 University Report Card. In addition to excellence in Arts, the university is also noted for its business and economic programs.
