Mind Matters: Taking Care of Your Mental Health

Rebuilding And Restoring

I haven’t felt this good in a long time. You see, after I had my second child I started having really giant mood swings and couldn’t control my emotions: one minute I was perfectly happy, the next I was weeping. I thought it was just the “baby blues,” but my husband, Paul, knew it was something more and insisted I get professional help. It was a good thing I did because I was diagnosed with post-partum depression. Counselling and medication really helped me restore peace and calm to a very rough year.

But as my return to work gets closer, I’m starting to worry about the change: Will work stress send me back to those dark days? Can I cope? Are the co-workers who know about my depression going to treat me differently now? How can I ensure the transition back to work is as seamless and stress-free as possible?
